This series was for a course project at Winona State University. I was tasked with creating a series of photos with one theme that ties it together.
Winona, Minnesota is a very historic city with lots of old architecture in its downtown area that brings character and charm to its appeal. These photos were taken at a point where I lived in downtown Winona and saw these buildings every day, so I decided to take some photos of them and create a story out of it. I originally wanted people to appear in the images, but the pandemic made that an issue.
The purpose of this series is to mix old and historic with new and modern. The black-and-white filters on the 19-20th-century architecture contrasts with modern features seen in the images such as 21st-century cars, art, and businesses. The collection is tied together with the last photo, where the viewer sees a very modern-style building with the same filter put over it as the rest.
